How To Practice Ball Control

Double hitting within a smooth stroke has been made legal in tennis since 1982, partly due to the publication of our book predicting double hitting as a consequence of ball control. Double hitting is the key in practicing ball control; it indicates that you are accelerating your racket and accelerating it almost at the precise time, with a slight delay. Practicing double hitting will strengthen your acceleration muscle and improve your timing. In real games, you can take away the slight delay and make the double hitting invisible.

The First Time: Put a ball on your racket and throw the ball over the net.
Beginners: Drop a ball on the ground and hit it with double hitting over the net. Gradually increase the velocity of impact.
Intermediate: Practice against a wall with double hitting.
Advanced: Practice against a ball machine with double hitting.
Professional: Hitting against a player using jumpulse without visible double hitting.
